Threat of action

LONDON, Wednesday (AAP-Reuter). — Legal action would be taken against any newspaper which published the findings of the report on Scientology tabled in the Victorian Parliament, a statement from the movement's headquarters in East Grinstead said today.

The Victorian report said the sanity of the founder of Scientology, Lafayette Ronald Hubbard, was to be seriously doubted.

Hubbard lives at Saint Hill Manor, in East Grinstead. The manor is also the headquarters of the world-wide Scientology sect.

In a reply to the report today, the "Hubbard communications office" said at Saint Hill Manor: "Dr Hubbard was forbidden to appear at the hearing and no testimony of his was

admitted.

"Our witnesses were not heard.

"The people investigating it are religiously biased."

The statement said there

was "collusion of witnesses of the opposition including meetings before the hearing to decide on their testimony, but unlike the British Profumo case this is not illegal in Australia.

"The people who began this are using it for political propaganda.

"We intend to sue any

paper publishing the findings as an accessory to libel

and slander."
