FLYING MACHINES FOR BRITISH

ARMY.

GOVERNMENT SUPPLEMENTS

PRIVATE GIFTS.

SYDNEY, August 28.

The official opening of the State Aviation School, which is located at Richmond, took place to-day. The State Governor (Sir Gerald Strickland) per-formed the opening ceremony.

Tho Premier (Mr. Holman) said that they hoped within two months to turn out their first twelve qualified pilots from this school. Referring to the movement which Mr. Alma Baker has been organising for gifts of aeroplanes to the British Army, Mr. Holman said that the State Government would give as many machines as were given by pri-vate persons in New South Wales. Al- ready five machines had been promised, and the sixth would probably be forth-coming in a few days, so that with the Government's gift a dozen machines would be available for presentation to Great Britain. The first twelve pilots trained at the new school would go to Europe to take charge of these ma-chines. There were at present 26 stu-dents at the school.
