Laver, who took service, went to a 4-2 lead after Rosewall had broken his servicc in the third game.

Laver broke back to level at 4 games all. held his own scrvice to love, and broke Rosewall's service to fifteen.

Rosewall then broke back and held his own service with well-planned shots down the centre line, or wide to Laver's forehand in the backhand

court.

Laver again held service, taking the ninth game with a clean ace down the centre.

Rosewall trailed 30-40 on service, dropped a set point when he netted a service return, and held two more set points before he was able to clinch his service and level

at 5-all.

Smashed

Laver smashed away a toss to go to a 6-5 lead, but Rosewall levelled and went to the lead at 7-6.

Games went against ser

vice to 8-ali, then Rosewall i again broke Laver's service to go to a 9-8 lead.

Rosewall went to a 40-30 lead in the eighteenth game, and took the service and set when Laver netted his re

turn.

Laver crashed through Rosewall to love in the firstj game of the second set, but Rosewall, with well placed services and a glorious backhand passing shot that clipped the line, levelled.
