SLIDE OUT OF SEQUENCE

across the lake from Black Mountain to Yarralumla? It appeared back in 1965 in 'The Future Canberra' as part of an express route running from the Barton Highway above Lyneham and O'Connor, round Acton, down the peninsula and over to Yarralumla

and Yarra Glen.

However, a year or two later, the NCDC received the Voorhees Report which shifted the major trafTic arterial to the west, to what we now know as the Gungahlin-Tuggeranonp Freeway

So we nearly tell oil .nit chairs ai the Housing Industry Association national convention this week when Commissioner Sir John Overall showed a slide of inner Canberra land use and transportation, complete with the third bridee.

But a keen scrutiny of the NCDC's annual reports and 'Tomorrow's Canberra' reassured us: the professional, expert, PR-conscious planners of new towns for the nation had merely provided their boss with a slide which was at least five years

old.
