The "Age" says Mr. James Brennan, the well-known" bookmaker-owner, on Saturday received a cablegram from France, notifying that his son-in-law, Sergeant Cecil Beveridge, had been dan-gerously wounded at Pozieres while tak-ing part in one of the many gallant actions associated with the Australians there. Sergeant Beveridge, who enlist-ed in New South Wales, was one of the famous Anzacs who went safely through the Gallipoli campaign. Ser-geant Cecil Beveridge was well-known in Australian theatrical circles, and was associated with the Brennan-Fuller companies for some years. He was a

member of the firm of Sadler and Bev-eridge, who, prior to the war, held a lease of the Theatre Royal, Hobart. Sergeant Beveridge had a host of friends in Tasmania, who hope he will pull through. Recent advices from Sydney state that Mr. Harry Sadler has decided to enlist.

The death took place in Adelaide last week of Mr. Philip M. Newland, at the age of 41. A South Australian paper says that in the realms of healthy sport his death will be deeply regretted. About 15 years ago he visited England with Mr. Joe Darling's Australian Eleven. For many years he was the leading University and inter-State lacrosse player for South Australia. He was captain of the Norwood Foot-ball and the East Torrens Cricket Clubs, and took a prominent part in inter-state matches. He has left a widow and four children.

It was announced on Tuesday that Lieut. Hubert Brettingham Moore, of the 15th Battalion, had ben promoted to a captaincy. Captain Moore's many Tasmanian friends will regret to hear that his father, Mr. G. Brettingham Moore, yesterday received news by cable that he had been wounded, and had been sent to England.

A cable message from London states that Lieutenant Ewen Macpherson, who belonged to Sydney, and was serving with the Royal Field Artillery, has been killed in action and that Captain Pritchard, the famous Welsh inter-national football player, has died from wounds. He played in the historical match between the All Blacks (New Zealand team) and Wales at Cardiff.
