RUGBY UNION

TEST AND

SERIES WON BY

ALL BLACKS

CHRISTCHU R C H, NZ, Sunday (AAP). -New Zealand won the rugby union Test, and the series, against Australia in the second Test in Christchurch yesterday, but the Wallabies had the All Blacks back-pedalling in the second half.

The AH Blacks won 30,17, but they scored only six points in the second half while (he Wallabies

added 13.

The Australians applied the pressure almost from the start of the second half, displaying a determination and sense of purpose not seen on the tour

before.

New Zealand in the first half was too good. It had ample possession from set play, and the All Black forwards were too big and too strong. With a 2-point lead at half time, the All Blacks looked to be heading for another big victory.

The All Blacks' backs had started well also and played steadily throughout the first half, but lost some of their confidence under

pressure in (he second half and dropped passes and missed tackles.

All of the Australian team showed improvement on that which received the arubbing at Wellington a fortnight ago.

The Wallaby forwards packed lower and better, and won frequent ball from rucks in the second half.

The Australian backs rarely made mistakes ?the opposite has previously been their trademark -and they looked particularly dangerous when halfback Gary Grey was able to get the ball away.

. Winger John Cole had his best game of the tour. His strong running on two occasions split the New Zealand defence, and he contained New Zealand wing Duncan Hales all day.
