N.Z. TEAM DRAWS WITH WALLABIES

TAURANGA, Tuesday (AAP). — A lucky bounce allowed Australia to draw with a de

termined Bay of Plenty side at the Tauranga Domain today.

In a hard, bruising rugby ! union encounter, each side ■ scored a converted try.

The lucky bounce came in the 20th minute of the : second half, with Bay of i Plenty leading 6-0, when

from an orthodox back : movement Wallaby centre

David Burnet ticked : through.

The ball fell short of

1 Bay full-back Bruce Trask,

1 and Burnet — one of the i fastest Wallabies —

scooped it up, evaded

Trask, and dived over the line between the posts.

Neither side really deserved to win the game. Both squandered opportunities through ovcr-kicking (Bay of Plenty) or bad handling (Australia).

The rucks were fast and furious, and the Bay of Plenty pack gave the Aus

tralians some hard lessons.

The Bay forwards won 18 rucks to eight.

Full-back Arthur McGill was the star of the Wallaby side. His tackling — unlike the rest of the team — was sound, his line kicking accurate, and he marked the bail with assurance and skill.

Former All Black flanker Alan McNaughton gave the Australian scrum-half Gary Grey a trying day.

Australian five-eighth Geoff Richardson had another solid game and improved his chances of Test selection.

Scorers: Australia: D. Burnet, try; A. McGill, conversion. Bay of Plenty: G. Moore, try; B. Trask,

conversion.
