FITZROY'S UPWARD MOVE

Fitzroy has had a varied experience this year, winning easily and losing by very narrow margins. On Saturday Melbourne came under the last of Fitzroy's displeasure, and the Reds were beaten by 11 goals 18 behinds to 1 goal 4 behinds. The result enabled Fitzroy to change places with Mel-

bourne on the premiership list, and to further

accumulate the maroons' wonderful average. Fitz-roy has the makings of a first-rate team, and, if they stick together, they should be hard to beat next season. The victory was well-deserved and well-earned, though Melbourne were unfortunate in losing the services of H. Purse before half-time. He wrenched his hip badly, and was not able to resume. The quarterly scores show that Mel bourne were always overwhelmed.

The best players for Fitzroy were Milne, M'Len nan, Bailes, Beecham, Walker, Holden, Dick, John-son, J. Sharp (who kicked the last goal of the the year), and Norton, a recruit from Haw-thorn. On the Melbourne side Pearce, Wright, Coutie, Smith, Totty, Purse (till hurt), Fowler (from Caulfield Grammar School), Bickford, and Monk, were the most noticeable.
