SWAN STREET MONIER BRIDGE
TO THE EDITOR OF THE ARGUS
Sir, - "The Argus" of the 17th contains
a paragraph reporting that attention was drawn at the Richmond Council meeting to the length of time that the Swan-street bridge was closed while having a new roadway, on the Monier system, con- structed upon it. As there seems an ob- vious implication that the delay in re- opening the bridge, and the character of construction adopted, are in some way as- sociated, will you permit me to state, for the information of the public, that the new roadway, so far as the reinforced con- crete work was concerned, was fit for traffic on May 15, having been completed within the contract time of 14 days, and differing in no respect from its usual valu- able characteristic of very rapid construc- tion. That the bridge was not open for traffic before this was, doubtless, due to
some delay in other portions of the work in which we were in no way concerned. -
Yours, &c., for the Monier Pipe Com-
pany, JOHN GIBSON,
Managing Director, Richmond, June 19.
