DEATH OF COUNCILLOR

FENWICK.

We regret to announce the death of Councillor     Orlando Fenwick, who for many years             carried on business as a warehouseman in       King-street, and subsequently in Flinders     -lane. The deceased gentleman, who had been in ill-health for some weeks, died at   his residence, Burwood, yesterday. He was born at Gravesend, England, in 1822, and came to Melbourne in 1852.     He was elected a member of the City Council,   and continued to hold a seat in the

corporation till his death. He occupied the       position of Mayor of Melbourne in 1871-72,

and was for many years one of the most     prominent members of the council. The funeral will leave St Paul's Cathedral for   the Melbourne General Cemetery at noon today.

Ex-councillor Charles Smith will be a   candidate for the seat in the City Council   rendered vacant by Mr Fenwick's death.
