TO-DAY'S MATCHES.
At least two of the six matches fixed for this afternoon are of special interest. After Geelong's fine performance against Mel- bourne, metropolitan lovers of the game
cannot see too much of them, and the South Melbourne Cricket-ground, on which they meet the home twenty to-day, will be the centre of attraction-more especially as South Melbourne have not suffered defeat on their own ground this season. Next in importunce is the match between Essendon and Melbourne on the M.C.C. ground. Essendon were most anxious to meet Melbourne in the same form that furnished Geelong with such a surprise a few weeks ago, but accident has further, weakened their team, while Melbourne will have a strong twenty afield. Fitzroy, who have still a chance for the premiership, will meet Richmond on the Richmond Cricket-ground, while Footscray and North Melbourne play at Footscray, Williamstown and Collingwood at Victoria-park, and Carlton and St. Kilda at St. Kilda. Port Melbourne are vacant for the day.
