A deputation of fruit growers waited apon the Colonial Secretary to-day to urge the necessity of additional market accommoda tion being provided for the fruit growers of the colony. Mr. Stuart admitted that the present provision for the sale of fruit waa utterly inadequate, and promised to give the

matter his best consideration.

Last night a Cre broke out in one of the Bheds belonging to the Shale and Oil Com pony's worka, off Botany-road, Waterloo. One of tho vats had been imperfectly closed, and the kerosene leaking out was by some means ignited, causing an immediate ex. plosion. All efforts to extinguish tho llamea were unavailing, and tho fire burnt furiously until 0 o'clock this morning, when it eubsided for want of fuel, having destroyed the building and several stills full of kerosene. This portion of the company's property was not insured, Through the exertions of tho firemen tho rest of the premieeB were kept cool, and no further

damage was done.
