Damage estimated at £100,000 was caused when fire swept through a big army store at Nungarin last night Fire began at 8.45 p.m., burned all night, was still burning this afternoon.
Store was a timber-framed corrugated iron struc ture. It is believed to have contained about 3000 tyres, electric generators, assorted clothing, general hardware and an electric travelling crane. According to local residents the fire is now burn ing itself out The store gutted was the camp's No. 1 shed. It was the biggest and most important in the whole camp area. *??'' Outbreak was first noticed by a local resident named Harper, who raised the alarm. Constables from Nungarin .made inquiries today and Detective Winning of Northam was to leave for Nungarin this afternoon. ^ Cause of the fire is not yet known. It is understood that an Army court of inquiry has been convened. .
