Howland Celebrates
Birthday.
Boer War Veteran 75 Years Old
Yesterday.
Many congratulations were re ceived by Colonel F. H. Howlanci yesterday, when he reached the 75th anniversary of his birth,

usual, the day, had many pleasant moments, old friends calling to offer their congratulations, Amongst his visitors were Mr. Hugh Corpe, of the second South Australian Contin gent at the Boor War; Mr, Henry Mills, of Kaniva, who is 84 years of age; and Mr, A. J, Oates, a well known local resident who has reach ed his 82nd year. Mr. L. J. Laslett, President of the local sub-branch of the R.S. & S.I.L.A., accompanied by the Vice-president (Mr. A. M. Thomp son), pa.d an informal visit, and congratulated Col. Howland on the attainment of his 75th birthday. A presentation was made to the guest, who, incidentally, has occupied the position of Secretary to the local sub branch of the R.S. & S.I.L.A. for over 20 years. Messrs. R. F. White, N. A. Macintosh and W. O. Beale, all local residents who took part in the Boer War, spent the; evening with Col, Howland and made a presenta tion. Many letters of congratulation
were received.
