THE ZIG-ZAG DEVIATION.
Great progress is being made with the work of constructing the Zig-Zag deviation. Clarence is the headquarters, and the
growth of that place of recent months has been very rapid. Some time ago it was hinted that the work of lengtening the dead ends at the Zig-Zag did not secure the object aimed at — the saving of time in taking the trains over the Zig-Zag— and that the work, which cost about £20,000,
was a failure. This is denied in railway
circles, and it is stated that very much longer trains, both passenger and goods, are able to go over the Zig-Zag without the necessity of dividing into two parts.
