FIGHTING IN BENIN.

LONDON, November 25.
News has been received that heavy fight- ing has taken place between the natives in the hinterland of Benin and the British Niger Territory's forces under Colonel Lugard. The British foroes captured several towns and badly defeated the natives.
It was recently announoed that Major Mar- chand, on returning to Fashoda to formally evacuate that place with his expedition, would preceed to the French port of Jibutil, on the Gulf of Aden, traversing Abyisinia on his journey. It is now reported, however, that King Menelik has forbidden Major Mar- chand to pass through Abyssinia.
It is announced that an expedition, headed by Major Martyr, who is second in command of Major Macdonald's forces in Uganda, has bean ordered to proceed northward for the purpose of establishing a British position on the White Nile opposite Lado, about 300 miles south of Sobat, where a post was estab- lished by Lord Kitchener.
