Cricket Premiership To East Carnarvon
The 1950-51 Premiership of the Carnarvon Cricket Associa tion was finalised on Sunday when East Carnarvon in winning' its first cricket grand final, soundly thrashed a much depleted Car narvon team by an innings and 60 runs.
Carnarvon was unfortunate after only suffering one defeat throughout the season, because of .several of its leading players be "ing transferred to other parts of the State, could only field eight men on Sunday. Carnarvon will now understand the disappoint ment felt by Gascoyne players last year, when that team- w,ent through the season witli only one defeat and was then beaten in the Grand Final by Carnarvon which had only won one match for' the season.
East Carnarvon thoroughly de served its success because it played as a team and in the finals all players rose to the occasion,
particularly its captain, E^ O'Dine*. who for the two matches had scores of 50 and 30, and took seventeen wickets for 63' runs off 33 overs, congratulations
| East Carnarvon.
| East Carnarvon batted first on
Sunday and with 3 down for 28 found the going tough until O'Dine and D. Lockyer became associated in a 4th wicket part nership of 50 before the latter was out for 15. O'Dine was the
next to go for 30 and it was.un
fortunate for Carnarvon that a chance he gave was not accepted. With able assistance from his team mates J. Starr took the total to 149, his contribution be ing 36, which included six 4's. H. Connor took the bowling hon ours with 6 for 41 off 12 overs.
Carnarvon with its depleted team could not get going and with 6 down for 16, Connor de clared. The reason was to allow an absent player to play next week. However, after some delib eration, the umpires ruled that
tfte innings was closed and .East
Carnarvon with 130 duns in. the lead, was in the .position to en . force the. follow-on. Carnarvon
in its second attempt compiled 73, R. Graham top-scoring with 30. Detailed scores are as fol lows:
