After two years of preparation, ":Smithy" will have its gala world premier at the Star Theatre, Sydney, on Wedne.day, June 26th, at the 8 o'clock perfo:mance. The entire proceeds of this first performance have been donated by Mr. N. P. Peay and Greater United Theatres, to the R.A.A.F. Memorial Fund; Box plans for this premiere will open shortly. As ;Columbia's first, . Australian production, every effort is being made to ensure that this will be an occasion long' to e remembered. Plans are going ahead for a typically "Holly wood" premiere, :ndlit is hoped that a simultaneous releasein America and England can be earriin d - The eveniig will be an exciting one. Police escorts, searchlights .an:t a guard of honor will point this up as a world standard film. Nota bilities will crowd the foyer, brushing elbows vith John Citizen. Several well-knriwns inlcnd , flying in from overseas, and the stars themselves will be on hand for bows. The cast, headed by Ron RHandel', and the production crew, headed by the Director, 'Ken' G. Hall, also de servei a grateful thank-you.. Without their enthusiasm and hard work, Smithy would lack thait extra some thing possessed by all great films. For Mr. Perry and Ken 'G. Hall, the 26th of June is a national event. It marks the emancipation of Aus tralian films from their long battle against "not good enough" and "local product--sub standard."
