OBITUARY. MR T. C. COATES. It will be learned with regret by the many friends of Mr E. V. Coates, who is in charge of the Moyston district of the Church of England, has sustain- ed a sad bereavement by the death of his father. Mr Thomas Christopher Coates died on Tuesday morning at his residence, Buninyong. The deceased who was born in Holme, Westmoreland, came to Australia in 1853, and towards the end of 1854 went to Creswick, where he was residing at the time of the Eureka Stockade riot. The de- ceased took a great interest in mining, and was one of the pioneer members of the Ballarat Stock Exchange. He was connected with a number of local and district mines and was on the directorate of many of them. He was for 26 years secretary to the Ballarat Benevolent Asylum, and resigned in 1912, when the offices of secretary and superintendent were amalgamated.
