Obituary. Death Ihas clalmed anotiher well-known pioneer in the person of -Mr. W. S. Ward. Tie deceased, who was in his 83rd year. bad not enjoyed good health for the past 18 months, and passed peacefully away at the residence of his son, 3Mr. B. T. Ward, of Armstrong street, lallarat, on Friday ?arnidng. The late M'r. Ward was ofa genial ditposition, and was widely known in the Ilallarat district. Ie was born in tile north of England. and ar rived in Australia in 18.7, laodinlg at Geelong. Ile at once made for Ballarat, and his first mining experience was on liakory lill. Tile following year associ ated with well-known pioneers, who have also passed over to the great mncjority, viz.,Messrs. JosJpli English, TIhos. Robin sont, E. Whlltfeld, and Simon Jory, they sank the Ilit or Miss shaft at lied Streak (Creswick, In 18538 he was also one of a party of 72 who worked the lioneer claim at the Durham.
