OBITUARY. The friends will regret to learn of the death of Mrs Sayer, wife of Mr. George Sayer,tailor, of Horsham. That lady died yesterday afternoon at her residence, Bow- den street, at the early age of 29 years. Her death though expected, was not looked for so suddenly, and was due to consumption. Deceased was a daughter of Mr and Mrs D. McRae, formerly of Bugalally, and her eldest daughter (Mrs Godfrey Bower), died only 12 months ago. The other sisters are Mrs W. McDonald (Western Australia), Mrs R. Lloyd and Mrs J. Kimberley, (Horsham), Mrs Fowler, {Melbourne), and Mrs Edwards (New South Wales), whilst her brother is Mr. John McRae, of Western Australia. Deceased had been ailing for about six months, and leaves one child, four years of   age. Dr. Real attended deceased in her illness, and the greatest sympathy is felt for the bereaved husband, parents, and rele- tives. The funeral will take place at four o'clock this afternoon. The death occurred in the orsonham o,. pital on Christmas Eve of Mr. Thomas Ward avery old pioneer of the Wimmera, and father of Mr. Chas. Ward, of tbs Bull and Month Hotel, Wilson street. Deceased, who was 80 years of age, died from debility and dilated heart. The funeral left the Bull and Month Hotel on Monday, and the remains were interred in the Eoraham cemetery. The RLv. MI. D. Williams, R.D. read the service at the grave. The pall. bearers were Mesrs. T. Smith, A. Collins, Milbourne and Harvey. Mr. A. Weight had charge of the mortuary arrangemtns. The late Mr. Ward was the first to purchase a township allotment, havinc bought aIx acres in the easnetn end of Walson street. Here he built a ccmmodionus residence, and visitors to Hcrsha.n in those days were accomodated therein. Afterwards deceased peutchased the common near the cemetery, the area being that now in crcupation of Mesors. M. Wilks and E. Wealsh. Mr John; R?we, one of the oldest mine managers in BSsllarat, died on Sunday, after a brief illness. Deceased, who was 74 yessa of age, was a native of St. sust, Cernwall, and arrived in Ballarat in 1855, shbortly after the insurrection at the Enureka Stockade. Mr John Permewan, who was for many years associated with the firm of Permewan, Wright and Co. Limited, forwarding agent, died on Friday, aged 67 years, at Ballarat.   Deceased was well known in commercial circles throughout Australia. He resided in Ballarat for many years, and was closely identified with the district. He had been ailing for some months, and death resulted from general break up of the system. Mrs Geo. Bolton, of Watracknabeat, was on Monday no'got taken suddenly ill in the street, and died almrst immediately. A cable message has been received at Ararat ancouncing the death, on she 20th instan,, of Dr. Phelan, bishop of Pitteburg, Pene., America. He was 77 years of age, and a brother of the Rev. Mother Ursunla, of the Brigidine Convent, Ararat, into which he had been a constant benefactor.
