IHAMILTON . STOCK MARKET Messrs. "T. H. Laidlaw and Co. re ..port under date Friday, 20th April: Only a light yarding of fat sheep were penned for our market to day, consist ing ofL merino and comeback wethers, .from good to prime quality, also a few pen of lambs. There was an average a'tendance of buyers, and for all prime quality the demand was keen, but medium sorts were slightly easier, and prices for such were a shade lower than before Easter. Quotations - Prime. merino wethers to 16s 8d, medium mer ino neethers to 13s 6d, good comeback wethers from 14s to 17T, good cross bred and j ahropshire lambs from 121 9d to 14s. Store sheep-About 5400 came forward, - including some good lots of ewes and weaners. There was a smaller attendance than usual, and at the opening sales very few were present; however, the demand through out was good, and bidding brisk, prices obtained being quite equal to late ruling rates. Fat cattle-30 cows and heifers were yarded, of medium quality, nothing prime being penned, and competition for same lacked animation, in consequence a good many were with drawn, prices being hardly up to late rates, but good quality will always realize full values. Store cattle-About 130"yarded, including 2 and 3 year old steers, and some nice springing cows and heifers. There was a fair demand, sellers in most cases meeting the market, and a fair clearance was effected, but the prices were hardly up to the expectations. Our sales were as follows:-On account H. Mibus, Hochkirk, 50 prime merino wethers at .16s Sd, topping the market, and 3 fat merino wethers at 13s 6d; W. We held our usual fortnightly sale of stock at our yards, Macarthur. on Wednesday last, 18th insr, when we had a record yarding of 5132 sheep and 443 head of cattle. The sheep yarded consisted of some well brid lines of comeback and crossbred ewes, showing well in lamb, several good lots of merino and come back wethers, crossbred and comeback weaners of nice quality. A good at tendance of buyers were -present from all parts of the surrounding district, but competition was hardly so brisk as our previous sale. However, we were able to dispose of the-bulk of those yarded, and for all good lines of breeding ewes and young sheep there was a keen di niand, but for indifferent sorts the market showed a downward tendency. The cattle comprised some well bred lots of steers from 2 to 4 years old, dairy heifers 2 and 3 years, forward springers, store cows, about 40 fat cows and heifers, and a large number of yearling steers and heifers. Special buyers were in attendance, and competition was good throughout, especially for dairy beifers and rprin gers, those yarded meeting with a ready sale; and we disposed of the bulk of our yarding.
