TQP STORE
THE imposing new
Read's Building in which the Homes & Trades Exhibition is being held dominates the Prahran skyline.
Read's is the biggest sub urban department store in Australia.
The late Mr Jacob Read set up business in the 1880's in a shop next to the corner of Commercial rd. and Chapel st.
When he died in 1910, Mr. Charles Moore took over as owner. He died in 1916, to be succeeded by his son, Charles Carty Moore.
Mr. Moore, senior, had arrived from County Derry, Ireland, in 1881 with only 2/6 in his pocket.
Mr. Moore's grandson,
Mr. Fred Moore, is now managing director of the companv at the age of 29. Mr. James Ogilvy is chair man of directors, and Mr. Bruce B. Hill, general manager.
