THE NEW SENATOR OV SYDNEY UNIVERSITY. ;
Mr. George Knox, M.A.., who has;recently heep, elected ¿member of the Senate of the University of Sydney, is á EOU of Mr. E. Knox,. M.L.C., and was born in 1845.: He was educated in tho Sydney Grammar Schoo!. Thence he proceeded toithe Sydney University in 18G3 j and he graduated as B.Á. in 1806 ; being first-class in mathematics, and taking the Wentworth medal for the ,beat English essay. While an undergraduate he won the Cooper and Barker scholarships, two; Univer sity scholarships, and the Salting exhibition Mr. Knox1 went to England in 1866, and graduated . B.A¿ , in. . the -University . of Cambridge in ? January, 1870,v . being ; also first class in the morali science tripos and junior optime in the i mathematical tripos. He was called to the English Bar from Lincoln Inn on November 15,1870, and in 1873 received his M.A. degree at Cambridge. In October, 1873, he returned to Sydney j and in the following year he too¥ his M A. degree at the" Sydney University not od eundem, as'he might -have done, but after passing the examination. Mr. Knox was called to the Bar of Now South Wale3 on November ll, 1873, and early laid the foundation.of his present position. He chose to praotise at the Equity bar underJ3uch leaders aa Mr. Gordon, Q.C., and Mr. Owen" QiC, and . was speedily recognised as a junior, of great ability. Mr. Knox is now thoroughly recognised as one of the best men in property and will case3. Ho has published a volume.of reports of Supreme Court cases, and ,a; pamphlet which' attracted considerable notice,; on " University Reform."
