NO ROYAL VISIT AN INSULT TO PORTLAND. The Hon. H. V. MacLeod was right when at a public function he stated that it was an insult to the people' of this old historical part that Port land had been ignored in the itin erary, of the Royal visit. .On the last occasion, when the tour, had to be cancelled mowiny to the lamented death of His Majesty the King, we were given No. 1' priority on the programme and lavish preparations were made in anticipation. It was naturally expected that when, the tour. did eventuate, 'as' it will early next year, Portland would: again be included, and it came as a bombshell that Hamilton was the only town in the Western Dis trict to be visited. This incredible decision should not be taken "sitting down," and it is hoped that a strong effort by those in influential circles will be made to see that Portland is recognlsed.
