OBITUARY. Mr. J. L. R. Baker, who died at Hamilton on Monday, aged 72, was well known throughout the Western District. He was renowned over the whole Commonwealth for his calligraphy, which was often quoted as outstanding in an age when cop- perplate is but a memory. He was for many years a leading Hamillton tennis player and was, one of the oldest members of Hamilton Lodge of Foresters. The late gentleman was a frequent summer visitor to Portland, where he owned a sersitl' residence. During his seasonal visits he made many friends here who will regret to learn of his passing.
