OBITUARY --x- - MRS. J. MINOGUE. The death occurred recently of Mrs.J. Minogue, who would have reached her 95th year next May. With her passing the oldest link with the pioneering days of the Harrow district has been severed. The late Mrs. Minogue came to Australia 90 years ago at the age of four. Despite her great age she could give detailed and vivid ac counts of her arrival and landing at the infant settlement of Portland Bay. Mrs. Minogue was probably the last living survivor of the pas 'sengers who came to Australia on the ship Severn. Besides passen gers this ship carried also one of the pioneers of the Australian turf in 'blood stock,- King Alfred, in charge of the late Mr. Chris Edwards, of Casterton. From Portland Bay, Mrs. Minogue and her party made, their way 'across country by waggonette to the station of 'Mr. David Edgar, of Pine Hills. In 1874 Mrs. Minogue, at that time Miss Jean Edgar, was mar ried at Mullagh station, Harrow, by the Rev. Fr. Fennelly. Her long and exemplary life had been spent In the Harrow district, 'where she had endeared herself to a very large circle of friends. In recent years Mrs. Minogue suf fered a good deal of ill health, but recently she met with an accident which hastened the end. She died at Clunie, the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. Daly, on February 18th. In making the obituary notice at Mass, the Rev. Fr. Ryan said that he was an old friend of the family. He 'had the highest regard for Mrs Min ogue as a worthy mother and a not able pioneer. She was a woman of strong character and high ideals, and her exemplary life was an inspira tion to all who came in contact with her. He offered his sincerest sym- pathy to her family in their sad be ranvement. A very large number' of friends followed the remains to the Eden hope cemetery, where the burial ser vice was conducted by Rev. Fr. W. A. Ryan, of Harrow. Other members of the family are : Joseph (deceased), Mary (Mrs. lHoulihan), Edgar (deceased), John (Caulfield), Margaret (Mrs. Daly), Walter (deceased), Jean (Mrs. O'Donoghue), Annie (deceased.)- "Spectator."
