The death has occurred of Mr. William Diwell, at Jeparit, after a short illness, at the age of 77 years. He was a native of Portland, and his wife, who survives him, was also born here. She was Miss Frances Webb, whose sister (Mrs. G. Spiken) has continued in residence here Mr. Diwell was a son of the late William and Margaret Diwell, who landed here from London in 1852, and lived here for many years. Mr. Diwell senior, was a builder by trade, and several houses he built in Portland remain as memorials to good and honest workmanship. One is the two-storied brick building standing back from Percy street opposite the Club Hotel. His son followed the trade of his father , and he too, has left memorials of his work through out the Western, Wimmera and Mal- lee districts. Besides his widow, he leaves a grown-up fanily to mourn his death. Mrs. James McDonald, of South Portland, is a daughter, and was present with other members of the family when her f'ather passed away.
