PERSONAL NOTES. Mrs. H. P. Gaussen, of Vasey Vasey, and her two children are stay ing in Portland with Mr. and Mrs. I-I. J. Youngman.. M'iss O. Stapylton Bree is the guest of Mir. and Mrs. It. T. Silvester at I Portland. Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Allen, of Mortlake, have taken up residence at Portland in their new home for the next two or three months. Mr. Al len is a keen fisherman, and with his most modernly-equipped little craft has made many fine catches. His delight was unbounded when he re cently captured a 151b. schnapper--. a real beauty-on ordinary light gear. Mr. John McNeill, who was a member of the Scullin Federal Min istry and a former M'.P. for Wan non, and who is a brother-in-law of Mr. Scullin, was on: Monday elected general president of the Australian Workers' Union, the largest indus trial organisation in Australia. Mr. McNeill will succeed Mr. J. Lamont, who has been appointed to a Govern ment position in Queensland. Mx. McNeill will continue no State secre tary of the A.W.U., and will combine the duties of both positions. The monthly meeting of the Coun try Women's Association is to be held on Thursday next in the supper room of the Free Library, when a cordial welcome is extended to all visiting members. A finding that Ernest Richard Diwell (48), of Rippon Road, Hnam Ilton, had died on January 0th front the effects of swallowing a quantity of spirits. of salts, which had been taken in mistake for whisky, was re turned by the deputy coroner (Cr. G. C. Shilcock.)
