OBITUARY --v- MRS. AGNES CHEQUER. After weeks of suffering, the death occurred at the Horsham Base Hos-   pital on Tuesday of Mrs. Agnes Chequer, of Natimuk road. Prior to leaving her birth- place, she married Mr. Ralph Che- quer at Rutherglen, Scotland. The couple lived in Brisbane for about a year and then they went to Mel- bourne, where Mr. Chequer took up ship joinery work. After five years at the trade, which diminished ra- pidly when the land boom was about at its height, he and his wife, about 1892, joined half a dozen enthusiasts who cleared the virgin land at Quan- tong. Through their efforts the fruit settlement prospered until today, as the result of pioneering spade work, its name is a household word through out the State and beyond. For about thirty years Mrs. Chequer proved a diligent helpmate to the orchadist, who successfully made good, and at the age of 64 he retired. For about two years.they resided in Melbourne, afterwards returning to the Wim- mera, where for fourteen years they had lived In Horsham. When the coronation of the late King George V. was attracting the attention of all loyal citizens, the two pioneers made a trip to England to participate in the festivities associated with the Royal event.
