OBITUARY. Another of the fast dimininishing pioneers of this part of :the State has F passed away in 'the pearson of Mr. James Beeson, whose'death occurred a ,last week at Portland. - The de ceased gentleman, who was.over 90 years of age, had resided in ithe dis- 1 trict at Cockatoo Valley for'practi cally the whole of.his:lifetime. He was a twice-married man, and leaves r a family of several-sons and daugh- s toers. Of a most modest disposition; a Mr. Beeson, on more than one occa sion made known to would-beu poll ticians the needs of the man on the t land, and took a keen interestlin politics generally. . Mr. Thomas Herbertson, who was . in his 81st year, passed away on Sun dlay last at his residence, "Wattle I 11111," W.est Portland, 'after a linger ing illness extending over some two years. At intervals the deceased gentleman was able to visit his many -friends, bUt latterly was closely con fined to his room. ,Ahout-a week or ยบ so ago he was taken with a stroke, and lapsing into unconsciousness, - he gradually sank add breathed his last as stated. 'Deceased,'who was a t native of Portland, wis a saddler by 1 trade,' but later established ha but t chery business,in Julia street. Hel t afterwards took up residenc'e' at "Wattle 11111," where, with his sons, r he engaged' in f?fming and fruit C growing,' the prodfJcts of his toil al ways finding ready markets. He h was a son of the late Mr. Robert l Iferbertson, who wds one of our ear * liest pioneers, who settled here in the f- orties and was closely identified ' with the trade of the town at that c period. Mr. Thombs Ilerbertson c married Miss Jenny Miller, of Port Ii land, who survives her husband, and is there are three sons-Robert, Thos. 1 and Itugh-and two daughters, a Katie (Mrs. J.
