THE KITCHEN GARDEN. The continued dry weather has prevented the planting of many of the seedlings usually put in at this season, and until the rains come it will be unwise to attempt extensive planting or sowing. Immediately rain arrives, and until the middle of next month, plantings of cauli flower, cabbage, etc., should be made, and. also sowings of such seeds as are necessary before the ground cools down. Tomatoes will require attention in regard to feeding, and weekly doses .f liquid manure will prove beneficial. This applies equally to pumpkins, marrows, etc., and if the pumpkin beetle has begun to assert itself, spraying with arsenate of lead should effectively check its pro gress. A. sowing of Short Iorn carrots in well prepared soil, the seed being sown rather more thickly than in the early part of the season, will provide a handy crop of nice car
