The. sum-' mons alleged that defendant -published a defamatory libel concerning Sir Joseph Tichborne. The prosecuting counsel' stated that de fendant, had pestered Sir Joseph with let ters containing allegations against him, libelling him, threatening assault, and de manding money as the price of silence. Defendant declared that she was the daughter of Sir Arthur 'Tichborne, and denied that she had demanded money. Reuter. A cablegram on October 28 announced that' Miss Theresa Tichborne had been sentenced to imprisonment for a year for threatening letters to Sir
George Lewis, solicitor for the Tichborne family. It was stated that she had endeavoured to extort money 'from the Tichborne family' by threats to kill them.
