Death of an Old Hamilton Resident. The death occurred on Monday morning about four o'clock of Mr. W. S. P. Lewis, of Gray street, whose low condition of health was referred to a few issues ago, and through whose demise a patient and long sufferer has gone to rest. Mr Lewis was resident in Hamilton for about 35 years. He was born in Hobart, Tasmania, on July 21, 1836, and was thus in his eightieth year. Coming to Victoria when about six years of age, he landed at Port land, and, residing for a considerable time in the neighborhood of Digby and Cole- taine, has been in the Western district ever since. In his greatest period of activity be was always identified with pastoral interests, and rented Hilgay for seven years (the lease of which expired in 1871). which included the first three years of his married life, having wed the eldest daugh- ter of Mr Angus Robertson, of Struan, who survives him, and who has been a faithful helpmeet to the end. Mr. Lewis owned in his day lirst-class prize blood horses and pedigreed Shorthorn cattle, his father having brought out from England one of the finest blood sires ever seen in Victoria, viz., King Alfred, and also a celebrated Clydesdale stallion, Agronomer. For seven years he took the principal prizes for blood horses and Shorthorn cattle, though never showing sheep. medals stamped with the inscription of the Cole- raine and Western District P. and A.Society remaining in the family as emblems of suc- cess in this way. Whilst at Hilgay he was prominent as a public man, and identi- fied himself with every public institution, being always on the committee of the Coleralne Racing Club at the time that the Great Western Steeplechases were run. After coming to reside at Hamilton he was employed for some time with Mr. W. C. Bayley as enginedriver of his chalf-cutting plant. For several years he had been in indifferent health, the last illness extend- ing over 11 weeks, during which time he exhibited patient resignation and passed peacefully away at the hour stated on Mon- day morning. He leaves, in addition to the widow, a family of seven surviving child- ren, four of whom are in Western Aus tralia.--"Hamilton Spectator." --- 'LINSEED COMPOUND, for Coughs and Colds, loogona phlegm, allays irrita -
