WAS IT POSSIBLE?
There was much speculation among competitors prior to the 100-mile race as to the speed required from the back markets to enable them to be anywhere near the leaders at the finish. According
to calculations made on Brooks' riding time N. K. Torode (8-valve Indian), who was scratch man, needed an average speed of 75ΒΌ miles per hour to win the race. He would have also found it necessary to travel at 72.4 m.p.h. before taking second position and 71.7 m.p.h. in order to secure third place.
