ROBBERIES FROM THE ROSS-
TOWN SUGAR WORKS.
It has been reported to the St. Kilda police that the long disused sugar works at Ross- town, belonging to Mr. Murray Ross, have been stripped of a quantity of valuable plant in the interval between the month of October last and last Sunday, when Mr. Ross had occasion to revisit the place, no care- taker being left in charge since October. The plant removed consisted of a 6ft. copper vacuum pan, three 400gal. copper desic- cators, three copper stills, three copper boilers, the whole valued at £1,400. Mr. Ross's groom visited the place at intervals, when, as far as he could tell, being un- acquainted with the contents of the building, he reported that all seemed secure, though the locks did not seem strong. A screw- driver and chisel, found on the premises about six months ago, were handed over to Mr. Ross.
