Hall captained the Scotch College while Donahoo let the Wesley. The latter won the toss, and secured first use of strong gale, which blew from goal to goal. On the ball being kicked off, the Wesley immediately assumed the offensive, and quickly secured their first goal, the result of the good kick by T. Fitchett. The Scotch then warmed up, and Ramsay, from a beautiful place- kick, succeeded in equalising matters. some excellent
play on the part of Speary and Donahoo placed the Scotch backs on the defensive ; but Firebrace, Murphy, and Morrison again took the ball into their opponents' territory, and Reid from a mark netted second goal for the Scotch. At quarter time the score stood- Scotch, 2 goals 1 behind ; Wesley, 1 goal 1 behind. The Scotch Col- lege now had the wind at their backs, and were not
long in assuming the aggressive. Firebrace quickly scored their third goal, and Reid netted the fourth shortly afterwards. Speary, Kelly and Knight were playing a good game for the Wesley ; but Kerrigan, Hall, and Shaw, by excellent play, kept the leather well in Wesley's quarters, and Morrison placed fifth goal to the credit of the Scotch. The next feature was a splendid run by M'Kean, who carried the ball about two-thirds of the ground. AT half-time the
score stood- Scotch, 5 goals 6 behinds ; Wesley, 1 goal 1 behind. After half-time the play of the Wesley improved, and Walton and Donahoo quickly place two goals to their credit. The Scotch College also secured a goal this quarter, Hall being the suc- cessful kicker. Croft made two fine runs for the Scotch, and Kelly and Donahoo followed suit for the Wesley. During the last quarter the Wesley played up splendidly. Morrison kicked seventh goal for the Scotch, and then Donahoo secured fourth goal for the Wesley. M'Leod team obtained eight for the Scotch, Reid netted the ninth, and just before time, M'Leod put up the tenth. The best players on the ground were Speary and Donahoo for the Wesley, and Ramsay and Hall for the Scotch. Besides these, Knight, Thomson, Walton, Kelly and Speed for the Wesley ; and Firebrace, Shaw, Reid, Morrison, Toms, Murphy, and Musgrove , for the Scotch, were conspicuous throughout. Mr. J. Kennedy made a very efficient and impartial central umpire.
