FATAL SNAKE BITE.

A fatal case of snake bite occurred near Alexandra > eaterda} ev emng About 5 o'clock a hoy over 12 } ears of age, son of a farmer named MTadden, was bitten on tho hand b} a tiger snake T he boy vv as engaged planting potatoes for his father, who at the timo was ploughing in the same paddock While in the act oi taking some potatoes out of a bag vv Inch had been placed the same morning on the ground, he felt a sudden stmg on tho back of his hand, and on looking dow n dis cov ered a snake ot the deadly tiger species, about 3ft long, coiled in the bag On calling for assistance the snake was immediatel} killed, and the father of the boy at once tied a ligature round the vvnst and mime diately above tho wound, at tho same time scarifying it and burning it with gunpowder Hie bo} was then taken into Alexandra, and medical attendance procured within an horn after being bitten Brandy was freely administered, but finding that of no avail Dr 1 ergusson injected ainmoma in the bo} s arm and thigh, when ho seemed to reviv e for a short time, but soon afterwards began graduall} to sink, his hand turning almost black, and being much swollen, and although brandy and ammonia wero again given, the unfortunate lad never recovered but died about 12 oeloek to da}- haidly 20 hours after being bitten
