Making Films In Australia

BRITISH UNIT

LONDON, Saturday.— The Gaumont British Film Co. will shortly send to Sydney a complete unit to make a film, 'The Flvine Doctor.' which will be the

first of a series of productions. Mr. John Norton, scenario writer, will ac company the unit. Mr. Miles Mander will be director. [This proposal to send a Gaumonl British unit to Australia has been un der consideration for a long time. After he had made 'The Man of Aran' Mr. Robert Flaherty said he would like to direct a picture of the real Australia, and it was thought that he would -ome here with a unit. But that director suddenly undertook a mission in India, where he has been for many months preparing to make a picture. Mr. Alan Williamson, Australasian representative of Gaumont-British, re commended 'The Flying Doctor' as a suitable subject National studios, an Australian organisation which recently built a studio in Sydney, has Gaumont British equipment of the latest design. It will probably be used for the new film. The engagement of Miles Mander as director indicates that Gaum out Bri tish intends to make fine productions in Australia.]
