EVADED CAPTURE
Reformatory Prisoner

David Cartledge, an escaped reforma- tory prisoner, «lio almost fell Into tuc hands of the police at North Fitzroy half Sunday night, had another narrow escapo from caj.. *rr~~"^ jdainciothes police raided a house in Collingwood tin's morning.
Wheo Cartledge was recognised by » constable on the verandah of a bout* in North Fitzroy on Sunday a young wo- man flung herself in trout of Cartledg! and assisted his escape.
To-day Cartledge again owed his es- cape to a woman's resource. Thc police received Information that he would be found fn a relative's home in Colling- wood, and on raiding tho house encoun- tered the fugitive in a passage. Cart- ledge rushed towards the back of thc house. His sister ran to a cupboard under the stairway, and cried out to thc . police, "Don't shoot him." Winn tile
police flung open the door nf the cup- board they found it was empty.
In the meantime Cartledge, clad ipi;, in shirt and troupers and without shoes or socks, had escaped from an upstairs room on to thc roof, from whore lin jumped into a lane and made off down
a side street.
A search hy thc police proved futile.
