BANTAMS Probably very few poultry keepers have any idea of the great number of breeds there are for Bantams, and the different varieties thereof. Of course those most commonly known and seen in shows are fairly familiar, but there are many breeds that are never seen in Aus- tralia. In judging most varieties, the characteristics are similar to those of the large breeds they represent in di- minutive form. Tasmania seems to pos- sess some of the finest specimens to be found in any state, but whether the ownership of such "little beauties" Is productive of profit outside the radius of prize tickets is a moot point. I am willing to admit they may be `darling little things," of great beauty, and all the rest of it, but in this matter of fact world something more substantial than beauty is required. However, if Bantam enthusiasts can prepare all their surplus stock of cockerels and culls, and place them on the table looking like "quail, tral, pheasants," and other small game, I am quite certain a decent business can be worked up, and the "little eggs" can be sold at so much per lb. Here is the most up-to-date list of breeds, with the weights attached: Ancona.--Cock, 180z. to 20oz.; hen,. 10oz,. to 20oz. Andalusian.--Cock, 18oZ. to 220o.; hei, 16oz. to 20oz. Should any of my Bantam friend ad mirers desire to say a word in favour of the little-'uns, I shall be pleased to make room for it.
