FRESH APPROACH TO SHAKESPEARE

Visiting producer Stan ley Hildebrondr brought new speed and excitement to Brisbane Shakespearian

productions last night. His production for Twelfth Night Theatre of their namesake play was a triumph for the cause of acting Shakespeare uncut and virtually non-stop. Designer Margaret Olley shared in the success with an imaginative use of fore stage sets which brought actors and audience closer together, This and the producer's bold approach to the Albert Hall stage's natural layout were examples of what has now become standard Shakespeare practice at London's Old Vic. Fine acting . Nobody could ask for more relaxed and assured playing than the packed ?audience had from Toby Belch (James Stevens) and Maria (Freda Little). Donagh MacDonaprh as Malvolio carried off his more difficult role with the right amount of sympathetic pomposity. Good support in the great comic scenes came from Sir Andrew Aguecheek (Ludo vlck Gordon) and the clown Feste (Robert Kable). In the more lyrical scenes of the play Jacklyn Kel leher was a beautiful and entirely self-possessed Olivia
