Forever Amber — but never Jedda role
SYDNEY, Friday.— Charles Chauvel has turned down an American offer of 100,000 dollars (£44,000) towards the production budget of his latest Australian film, Jedda.
The offer was made by a leading American film organisation on condition that Hollywood actress Linda Darnell (who starred in For - ever Amber) was given the title role of Jedda — an abo- riginal girl. Chauvel said to-night he had rejected the offer be- cause the American organi- sation in return for its in- vestment had asked for the bulk of the American market. Blood call Jedda is an aboriginal girl, orphaned at birth, and reared according to white codes until the blood call summons her back to her tribe. The leading Filipino act- ress, Paraluman, has also been suggested to Chauvel as a likely type for the Jedda role. The Chauvel film unit is now in the Northern Terri- tory. The whole of the fin- ance for the picture is being supplied by Charles Chauvel Productions, Ltd.
