STRATHALBYN;
[From our Correspondent.]
STRATHALBYN ANNUAL PLOUGHING MATCH. — A public meeting was held at the Strathalbyn Hotel, on the evening of Monday, the 13th instant, for the purpose of making arrangements for the annual ploughing match
in connection witn the Strathalbyn Agricultural Asso ciation; Mr. John Cheriton occupied the chair. The following gentlemen were appointed, as a Committee, to carry out the proposed object:— Messrs. A Stark, W. Colman, J. Cheriton, D. Gollan, R. Hooper, M Rankine, A. McLean, J. Dawson, sen., and T. Hall, Mr. W. Col man was requested to act as Secretary and Treasurer ; and Friday, the 31st instaut was appointed to be the day on which the match should take place. The site and prizes will be duly advertised in tho Observer. The sub scription-list at this time (July 17) already exceeds £6Q, and there is no doubt that the istrathalbyn ploughing laateb— always attractive, *nd last year second to none of the country districts — will this year fully maintain its well-earned reputation. i Nbw Bkioge at ^TiuTHALury.— Tfad bridge across - the Augas Bivcr is progressing very well; the abutments being nearly ready for the springing of the arch,fwhicu will be a segment of a circle having a versed sine of 11 ft. The span will be 83 a., which is, I believe, the widest in the colony. The proposed bridge at Gunwrichs, which will be built by the same coutrabiors (Alesire, T, and J. Baker), will, however, exceed these dimensions, - ts the span will be 1CJ feet. ;. i Improvements at STRATHALBYN.— This important township is fast progressing, and several new buildings are in course of erection, among the most prominent of which is the extensive and substantial stone building being built for Messrs. Lander & Stephens, and intended for a store. It will be an ornament to the township, and, far eclipse anything of the kind now existing this side of Adelaide.j
