MEMORIAL OF A. L. GORDON.
Mount Gambier, July 8.
The memorial obelisk to the poet Gordon was laid this morning by Mr. John Riddoch, J.P., of Yallum, in the presence of about forty ladies and gentle-
men, including several Victorian visitors who knew Gordon intimately. During the proceedings the Mayor, Mr. Riddoch, and Mr. W. Trainor (who saw Gordon make his famous Blue Lake leap) delivered addresses. Mr. Riddoch was presented with an inscribed silver trowel as a memento of the occasion. The obelisk will stand on a prominent site between the Blue and Leg of Mutton Lakes, and will have a total height of 19 ft. 6 in. The base and die will be grey and red dolomite, together 7 feet high. The shaft will be grey granite 12½ feet high. The die will bear the simple words ' Adam Lindsay Gordon.' The cost will be nearly £100.
