TOKIO AN APPALLING SIGHT
THANKS FOR RELIEF
London, October 12.
A Tokio message states that the greater part of Tokio lies in ashes, and it is an appalling and staggering sight. The latest figures give the killed at 78,000, the missing at 120,000, and that 35,000 houses were destroyed in Tokio alone.
Baron Kuakanashe, writing in the "Japan Times," says that the most pro- found gratitude is felt, not only in Tokio and Yokohama, but over the whole country for the assistance ex- tended by the United States, Australia, Canada, and other countries. Japan had never before experienced such friendship and goodwill as in this hour of affliction.
