A ROYAL MARRIAGE.

ITALIAN PRINCESS AND PRINCE OF HESSE. There was a mediaeval ceremonial in respect to the marriage of Prin- cess Mafalda and Prince Philip of Hesse. RACCONIGI, September 23.

Princess Mafalda, of Italy and Prince Philip of Hesse were married this morn- ing in the presence of the Royal family There was a mediaeval and almost a

toral setting. The only modern note in the great procession was given by the florally decorated motor cars organised by   the Italian Automobile Club. Otherwise   the ceremony was very quiet. Represena- tives of other reigning houses and the   diplomats were not invited, as the ancient   castle accommodates only a few guests. The town was crowded by sturdy Alpine mnuntainceers in bright colored Sunday costumes.   The Princess looked radiant in a white   satin robe with a train four yards long, borne by pages Her beautiful golden hair   was covered by a veil of rich lace, a family heirloom six centuriis old. She wore a necklace of 300 Oriental perals the gift of the bridegroom. The castle was a hover of flowers from all parts of Italy. Orchids   came from the Genoes, Riviera roses   from Rome. orange blossoms fvom Sicily,   and pa!m branches from Tripoli. THE KING PRESENT.   During the civil ceremony at the castle Signor Mussolini acted as notary for the   Crown, and Signor Tittoni, President of   the Senate as municipal officer . Both wore the collars of the Annunziata order.   which give them rank as cousins to the   King. Afterwards the cortege descended   to the chapel for the religious ceremony.   The King in the uniform of a marshall of army, conducted the bride to the altar.   The bridegroom followed with the Queen   The Royal chaplain (Monsignr Beccaria)   performed the ceremony.— Reui?-. j __ ~ I
