Some years ago a leading nrm In Glas- gow, who had an advertisement ia a weekly paper was asked to " repeat," as the term was about to expire. However, as they did not know of any good that had come to them through the medium of said advertisement, they thought it "would not pay them to continue it." But they ultimately decided to put tho matter to a test before finally settling it. It was done in this woy. Thoy recast the advertise- ment, and purposely misquoted asimple historical statement, judging that if any- one read it they would be almost certain to let tho firm know. Within a week afterwards they were flooded with letters from all parts of the United Kingdom from peers of the realm, and members of Parliament (among whom was the 4 G. O.M.' W. E. Gladstone), from doctors, lawyers, tradesmen, and mechanics, all endeavoring to put them right ! They, of course, wrote the pub- lishing firm, to " keep the advt, in for another year." Fancy a man like Glad- stone with his multitudinous engagements, taking time to read advertisements ? If he does soj(says an exchange) probably very few people pass them by entirely. There is a valuable business hint in this incident. We commend it to favorable and practical attention.
