BILLARDS.
THE AMATUEUR CHAMPIONSHIP.
The final of the amateur billiards champion- ship was begun at the Palace Billiard Hall be- fore a large audience last night, The com- petitors were S. Wilson and W. Buchanan, both
of whom have held the championship previ- ously. The match began with Buchanan play- ing very well and Wilson obviously scratchy. When the first 100 went up for the former, Wilson had only 45 to his credit, and when Buchanan was 500 Wilson had scored 162. while Buchanan took his score from 300 to 400 Wilson added only 9. Wilson's play then considerably im- proved and when Buchanan was 678, he was 500. The scores at the adjournment were:— Buchanan. 750; Wilsn. 566. Best breaks—Buchanan—21, 21, 29. 54, 21, 47, 31 22, 42. 25. 24. Wilson—39. 20, 25, 46, 26,25. 29 46 (42 off the red). The game will be concluded to-night.
