At the, Longreach Shire Council meeting on Monday a letter was re- ceived from the Director Australian War Memorial Board, advising the board is arranging to make available facsimile re-production in colour of the portrait in oils of the late General Sir .lohn Monash, and which is in- cluded in the National collection of war records in the custody of the
board.
The portrait, which is half length, was painted in 1919 to the commiss- ion of the Commonwealth Govern- ment, by Slr John Longstaff. The subscription has been designed to re coup the cost, it being the wish of the board that no body desirous of ac- quiring the portrait should be pre- vented from doing so. Two different styles of frames, are offered, one will cost complete. 50/- and the other, moro ornate, 05/-.
On the motion of Crs McDonald and Moffat tho council decided to pur- chase a copy ¿it the cost of 65/-.
